Last week we started our journey through the rest of Revelation in the most important place in existence: the throne room of God. We drank in the details of that scene as described in chapter 4, and we sought to gain a greater vision and understanding of the thrice-holiness of our Creator God.
This week, we’re in that same throne room. As we look at chapter 5 this coming Sunday, we’ll see a mysterious scroll with seven seals, a weeping apostle, a Lamb who looks dead but is standing, and one of the most amazing and awesome worship scenes recorded in Scripture.
If you wanted to boil it down to one thing, though, its really all about the Lamb. At the center of this throne room scene – the single most important place of all time – is a Lamb who looks like it should be dead. But He is not, and that’s what we’re going to focus in on for this week. So, a couple things that you could do to be prepared for Sunday . . .
1) Do some reading. Read through Revelation 4 again, to get the throne room scene back in your head. Then read chapter 5, thinking of what the scene would look like if it were a movie. Pretty cool stuff, I’m telling you!
2) Do some more reading. Read what Vern Poythress has to say. It isn’t that long!
3.) Ponder some ponderings. Here’s some sample ponderings from my head to give you a starting place . . . What’s in the scroll? Why would John be weeping? What’s the central paradox of the Christian faith? Where do we see it here? What type of music are these songs? Will I be able to sing better in heaven? How loud was it, and has any concert on earth ever really come close that level?
4.) Pray. Take some time before you come Sunday morning to ask God to work in your head and heart in a way that would glorify Him. If you don’t do any of these other things, make sure to do this one.
