Elders & Delders & Deacons, O My!

As we continue our trek through what the Scriptures say regarding church leadership/structure, we finally arrive at deacons.  The “deacons” in many of today’s churches serve a variety of roles.  The role that deacons play at KSBC is unbiblical at best.  It’s even been referred to as “delder,” a hybrid deacon/elder.  So, the question that arises is, “What does a biblical understanding of the office of deacon look like?” and “What’s wrong with KSBC’s current understanding?”

It is my hope that we will be able to answer both of these questions in our time together this Lord’s day.  I’d encourage you to read the texts of primary interest: I Timothy 3:8-13, Acts 6:1-7, and Romans 16:1-2.  How do these texts describe the office and qualifications of deacons?  Also, take a look at KSBC’s constitution and see if you can pinpoint what about our understanding of deacons that runs contrary to the Scriptures.

You can see my notes here (once I get some, that is).
